š It isnāt so much about the THING someone is addicted to (alcohol, drugs, ā¦) as it is about the RELATIONSHIP or the DYNAMIC with that thing.
š I stopped abusing āpartyā drugs (ecstasy, cocaine) in 2015, but then alcohol became a problem. I stopped drinking in 2017, but then unhealthy relationships became a problem.
ā”ļøIt wasnāt about the drugs. Or the alcohol. Or even the guys. It was ME. I was the common denominator. It was my relationship with those things, my dynamic with those things. š£
š Iām blessed that my parents are (still) married. I didnāt experience neglect or abuse as a child. I didnāt go without. (Saying this to say, addiction doesnāt discriminate.)
Questions I asked myself,
š„ āwhat is going on with me??ā
š„ āwhat feelings am I numbing?ā
š„ āis it something within me thatās bothering me or is it something outside of me? Where am I feeling this?ā
š We canāt see our own blind spots. I started working with therapists, coaches, surrounding myself with people who were in places in their lives that I knew I wanted to be in myself.
š« I gained insight, self awareness, and started understanding why I did the things I did.
Iām not here to tell anyone what to do. Iām genuinely inquisitive and, after years of personal and professional experience with mental health and substance abuse, ask quintessential questions to support in gaining your own clarity within yourself ā¤ļøāš©¹
